Tempranillo

Variety Tempranillo, also known as Tinta del País or Tinta Fina or Cencibel, is the more cultivated red grape In Spain. Its origin is located on the border between La Rioja and Burgos, and spread to the rest of Spain by the Cistercian monasteries. Their grapes are characterized by their thick skin and its characteristic blue-black color and their clusters by their compact and elongated look. From then on, fruity rosé wines and powerful red wines with a great structure are elaborated allowing a good oak aging and longevity (breeds and reserves).

Also this variety gives name to Tempranillo wines, either varietal or have a blend with other grapes such as the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, or Garnacha Tinta (Red Garnacha).

Macabeo

The white variety Macabeo, also known as Viura proceeds according to some, from Asia Minor and is cultivated in Spain in 13 regions, including La Rioja, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla and Leon, Catalonia and Extremadura.

This plant is well adapted to extreme temperatures and very resistant to frost. Its berries are spherical, medium size, thin skin and golden color. Compact clusters are of medium size and elongated conical shape.

With this type of grape very different wines are produced. From monovarietal light whites and intense flowers bouquet to special wines, crianzas (breeds), reserva (reserves), liqueur and cavas, as it is suitable for fermentation in barrel.

It is also used “en coupage” with young red blend or crianza.

 
Syrah
 

Syrah

Syrah is a variety of red vine (Vitis vinifera). With this variety you can create a monovarietal wine also called syrah.

The origin of this stock comes from the Persian city of Shiraz, where either the Phoenicians or centuries after, the Crusaders would have taken it to Gaul.

The Syrah is a grape variety for fermentation recommended in the Spanish autonomous communities of Catalonia, Extremadura and Valencia. It is authorized in Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, Baleares, Canarias, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid Community, Navarra and Murcia region.

It is a very plastic stock, malleable and able to produce quality wines; even with high productions are achieved acceptable quality wines. Quality wines usually have live violet and deep colour, powerful ripe aromas of blackberry, tobacco among others.

It has a cluster of medium size, cylindrical and compact shape. The berries are small, egg-shaped and bluish colour. The skin is moderately thick.
